How stove problems show up
Short answer: Stove problems split cleanly by fuel type. Gas burners that click without lighting need an igniter, a clogged burner port, or a spark module. Electric coils or glass-top elements that stay cold need a new element or infinite switch. We diagnose by fuel type and test the ignition or element circuit directly.
The call we get most is the gas burner that clicks and clicks but never lights. When we open it up, what we actually find is usually a weak igniter that sparks but cannot draw enough current, or burner ports clogged with boiled-over food. A toothpick and a new igniter fix most of them. On electric stoves, the equivalent call is the coil or glass-top burner that stays cold while the rest work: that is a burned element or a failed infinite switch, both straightforward.
One thing we take seriously on every gas call: safety. If you smell gas around the stove, do not keep clicking the igniter. Turn the burner off, ventilate, and if the smell is strong, leave and call your gas utility first. For everything short of that, we check ignition, gas flow, and shutoff function as part of the visit. Homes in Harvest Point with builder-grade gas ranges see igniter failures right on schedule at 8 to 12 years. More about our approach is on our home page for Spring Hill appliance repair.
Stove symptoms we fix
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth a call. A quick diagnosis now usually costs less than the damage a failing appliance does later.
01. Gas burner clicks but will not light
Weak igniter, clogged burner ports, or a failing spark module. We clean the ports and test igniter draw before replacing anything.
02. Electric burner stays cold
Burned-out coil or radiant element, or a failed infinite switch. We test the element for continuity and the switch for output.
03. Cracked glass cooktop
Impact crack or thermal stress crack. We replace the glass top as a unit and check the elements underneath while it is open.
04. Burner stuck on high or will not adjust
Failed infinite switch on electric, or a valve issue on gas. We replace the switch and verify full range control.
Stoves across Spring Hill neighborhoods
Gas ranges are common in Harvest Point and Brixworth, where builder packages included them, and igniters are the number one repair at the 8 to 12 year mark. Electric coil and glass-top ranges dominate rentals and older homes near Main St and Columbia Pike, where we see more element and infinite switch failures.
January matters for stoves too, in an odd way: holiday cooking season pushes weak igniters and elements over the edge. We get a wave of no-heat range calls from Thanksgiving through New Year. If your range is limping into the holidays, it is cheaper to fix it in October than to lose it on the big day.
We run calls daily in Harvest Point and Brixworth and across Spring Hill ZIPs 37174 and 37179.

Repair the stove or replace the range?
Stove-top repairs are almost always worth doing:
Igniter, element, or switch failure
Repair: $100 to $250 fixes on any range under 15 years
Cracked glass cooktop, parts available
Repair: Glass replacement beats a whole new range
Gas valve failure with parts unavailable
Replace: No part means no safe repair, and we will not improvise on gas
Multiple failures on a 15+ year range
Replace: When oven and cooktop both fail, the math favors new
